An ALPhA Event
July 25, 2018 - July 27, 2018 in Loyola University Maryland, Baltimore, MD

BFY III: 3D Physics: Integrating Experiment, Theory, and Computation

ALPhA, the Advanced Laboratory Physics Association, held the Third Conference on Laboratory Instruction Beyond the First Year (BFY III)  at  Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore, MD, Wednesday, July 25 - Friday, July 27, 2018.

Conference overview:

The 2.5 day conference brought together faculty, technical staff, and vendors involved with intermediate and advanced undergraduate laboratories to share effective lab curricula, teaching methods, and experiments. The workshop-intensive conference had participants rotate through twelve 40 minute small-group workshops led by commercial vendors and by laboratory instructors and developers.  This setup provided an unusual and excellent opportunity for hands-on experience with a broad selection of contemporary instructional labs. The conference also included invited speakers and breakout and networking sessions.  Meeting participants were encouraged to present information about their own courses and/or experiments in two contributed poster sessions.  Workshop and poster presenters had the opportunity to publish a paper in the peer reviewed BFY III Proceedings.
