Abstract Title: W24: SPAD Circuit Construction and Pulse Counting with the Teensy Microcontroller
Abstract: The well-known LED SPAD lab is an excellent introduction to many of the tools used in the advanced physics lab including power supplies, oscilloscopes, DMMs and pulse counters. Workshop participants will be given the opportunity to demonstrate the operation of an AND113R SPAD, construct a discriminator circuit, and collect data using pre-programmed Teensy microcontrollers. The use of the inexpensive Teensy microcontroller obviates the need for dedicated frequency and interval counters and is furthermore capable of populating a spreadsheet with collected data for immediate analysis. This workshop will be hands-on and the opportunity will exist for participants to purchase the inexpensive kit to take back to their home institution.
