W33: Spatial Light Modulator Educational Kit Workshop |

"Jasper Display Corp. (JDC) has developed an educational product that introduces students to Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs) and gives them valuable hands-on experience with these powerful devices. JDC's Educational Kit (EDK) includes a ten experiment lab manual which teaches how geometric, wave, and Fourier optics theory apply to an SLM. The SLM hardware consists of 0.55", 2K LCoS microdisplay and driver electronics, and comes in a compact, durable casing that easily integrates into lab environments.
For our 40-minute BFY III workshop, we propose an introduction to SLMs, an overview of the EDK hardware and teaching materials, experiments that the audience can participate in, and Q&A about how the EDK could be incorporated into physics labs. Our station will have the SLM, optical rail system, optical power meter, and a laptop. There will be a low-power green laser so laser safety will be required. One JDC employee will guide the workshop while the other operates the equipment. We propose to conduct two of the experiments from the following list:
