Abstract Title: Verifying Moseley's law with energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy or x-ray fluorescence
Abstract: We present an experiment for a modern physics course using energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy with the scanning electron microscope or x-ray fluorescence to measure the characteristic energies of a variety of metal samples.  The characteristic energy peaks are determined from the spectrum provided by the instruments. The frequency vs. atomic number are plotted in Matlab and used to verify Moseley's law.
