Abstract Title: |
Musical Acoustics Demos with an Impedance Probe |
Abstract: |
An acoustic system, such as a musical instrument, can be described in terms of applied acoustic pressure and resulting flow of air. The ratio of acoustic pressure and resulting volume flow of air is called the acoustic impedance. Knowledge of the acoustic impedance reveals important characteristics of the system. We used a simple impedance probe to measure the acoustic impedance of various air columns and use the result to demonstrate acoustic principles in a musical acoustics class for non-majors. |
