Abstract Title: A large scale, problem based, advanced experimental physics lab program.
Abstract: Experimental physics is considered to be of fundamental importance in the Engineering Physics program at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. The main experimental course package, taking place the first three years, is now based on problem-based learning and constitutes a modern form of learning experimental physics. We have moved away from the traditional (passive) laboratory work and replaced it with something that better develops the students' ability to independently solve experimental problems. In particular, we encourage (i.e. force) the students to truly take on the responsibility for their own experimental work with the goal to make them independent experimentalists. What is unusual with our program is the scale. We have about 110 physics major which makes the organization and execution of the course a demanding task. In this poster, we will elaborate on the organization and the execution of the courses. In addition, we will also provide some highlights from our laboratory.
