BSY (Beyond Sophomore Year) Labs without an Advanced Lab class? |

In a small department with only a few majors, offering and filling upper-level classes is a challenge. We cannot teach an advanced lab course (or any other course) to only 3 students. We do offer two "sophomore" level courses with labs that are required of all majors and taught in alternate years. But that's not enough. We want our majors to engage in more independent experimental work. Thus, we revised our curriculum to include a lab option for any upper-level course. This poster describes our approach for infusing lab projects throughout the physics curriculum as well as our pilot implementation in one course. |
