Abstract Title: Experimental Design in Curricular Laboratories
Abstract: We have been working to incorporate more opportunities for students to develop experimental design skills in both introductory and advanced labs. Structuring authentic activities that allow students to pose scientific questions and design experiments to explore those questions within various curricular constraints has been challenging, but student response to such activities has been extremely positive. I will provide examples of the way we include experimental design in our curriculum, the metacognitive supports that accompany these activities, and student and faculty perspectives on what works and what doesn't.
