Abstract Title: Flipping (and Scrambling) the Introductory Electronics Course
Abstract: The "flipped" classroom approach, in which content presentation occurs outside of class time and class itself is used for problem-solving, has generated considerable interest in the education community. In Physics teaching this approach has most often been applied to the introductory course, but it also promises potential benefit in upper-division courses such as "Electronics for Scientists" at CSU Chico. In the course of re-thinking and reorganizing material for such a flipped electronics course, it became apparent that the usual linear approach to topics in electronics could be replaced by a series of topic modules arranged in a "Tech Tree" offering multiple pathways through the material. I will be presenting preliminary work on this flipping/scrambling course redesign, in hopes that other instructors can offer helpful suggestions before I hit students with it and discover glaring problems with the approach.
