2018 BFY Proceedings

Solicitation of submissions
The BFY III conference will compile a peer-reviewed, on-line proceedings to serve as the written record of the scholarly work presented at the conference. The proceedings will cover topics related to the teaching and/or learning of physics laboratory classes beyond the first-year of college. Submission of case studies of particular laboratory classes, descriptions of novel experiments or activities for the advanced lab, preliminary research results on student learning in lab courses, and related topics are welcome. Contributed manuscripts will undergo peer-review. To be publishable, papers must contain new curricular developments or research results, must be of high quality and have broad interest, and must be written in grammatical, scientific English. Papers for the proceedings will be evaluated according to these criteria and will be recommended either for acceptance or rejection. There will be no opportunity to revise and resubmit for the conference proceedings.
The due date for submitting your paper this year has been extended to Monday, July 16, 2018 at Noon Eastern. All authors listed on a paper should expect to be asked and be willing to participate in reviewing other papers for the conference proceedings. Reviews will be due on Friday, August 10, 2018.
Format of papers
The BFY Proceedings will be published online at the Advanced Lab portion of ComPADRE. The BFY II Proceedings can serve as a source of sample papers. ALL BFY Proceedings papers are limited to four (4) pages in length, double-column 8.5 x 11 inch format. Authors should use the BFY Proceedings Style Guide Summary to guide the preparation of their papers. This style guide is based on the Physical Review Physics Education Research style requirements, with the exception that full article titles need not be included in the reference list. All peer-reviewed papers must be submitted in .PDF format for the peer review process.
TeX and Word templates are available. However, due to differences in OSes and environments, authors must confirm papers render as expected before submission. The BFY II Proceedings can serve as a source of adequately formatted sample papers.
Permission to Reprint Published Material
Reproduction of figures, tables, and text material that have been published previously should be kept to a minimum and must be properly referenced. In order to reproduce figures, tables, etc., from a journal, authors must show that they have complied with the copyright/licensing requirements of the publisher of the journal. Publication of material in a thesis does not preclude publication of appropriate parts of that material in the BFY III Proceedings.
If your submission contains any material copyrighted elsewhere, you must obtain permission from the original copyright holder. Please submit the release form as evidence that you have obtained all necessary permissions.
