Abstract Title: Developing Students' Scientific Communication Skills in the Advanced Lab
Abstract: In the Advanced Lab course at Lewis University, students have various opportunities to hone their scientific communication skills.  In this lab, students are required to complete a "Major Project." During the course of this project, students perform a literature search, write a project proposal, give project updates, and disseminate their findings in a journal article, an oral presentation, and a poster presentation.  Students also participate in the journal submission and peer review process, this past year by participating in JAUPLI.  Moreover, they are required to attend and critique several scientific talks throughout the semester and write critiques of the presentations.   A description of these and other opportunities for students to develop communication skills necessary in science will be given, and ideas for developing these skills earlier in the physics curriculum will be discussed.
